The past two weeks have been slow due to Life Events, but I am at a critical point in Gray Haze where the plot is going to start speeding along, which means progress will proceed apace. I will get back into my groove on Monday, for sure. 🙂
Current word count: 40,382 words (159 pages; +4,735 words from the last the update). I have completed chapters 1-12 (out of 50 planned chapters), which means I am approximately 25% of the way through! That’s not bad after only 7 weeks – at least for me, haha.
Starting Monday, I plan on writing 2 chapters weekly so I can finish Gray Haze by my self-appointed deadline (May 2019). At the same time, I am going to comb through 2 chapters a week with my Editor-in-Chief over Skype so I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone. My mom will of course maintain her lofty position as First Reader. She reads each chapter as soon as it is complete and provides helpful feedback before I send it to my editor on the other side of the country.
In addition, I am going to continue posting one chapter of Gray Haze per week on Bookboro, which is a site you should all sign up for! The “reading test” for Chapter 2 will begin tonight at 6 p.m. MDT (8 EST) and extend to next Wednesday, October 24th. I will only post reading tests up to Chapter 25 (the halfway point) so nobody but a select few knows the ending of the book before it’s published. 😉 Here is the entire schedule:

Please consider signing up and reading Gray Haze each week so you can help me improve! I really think this story has potential to be amazing, but it can’t be amazing without a ton of help! Your contribution would be highly valuable. ❤ I have big plans for this book (and the two books that will follow in the trilogy), and I’d love for you to be a part of the whole process. Don’t be afraid to spread the word to those whom you think might be interested as well. 🙂
I am going to post the link to the next reading test on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and this site (plus reminders throughout the week), so don’t miss it! If you do happen to miss a week here and there, I will leave each chapter available to read even after the reading tests are complete so you don’t get behind. I will also update the chapters after editing them in case you want to go back and see what I have changed since the last reading test.
It’s not too late to leave feedback for Chapter 1! Download the epub now and answer a few easy questions.
Gray Haze will be a fantasy novel with mild horror and a touch of romance. Synopsis:
In Fog Creek, a small town in New York, the high school principal dies of a heart attack. His eldest son and daughter, MARCUS and MERCY, return home to attend his funeral and support their widowed mother and their younger, adopted brother, MALIK. The death of their father was sudden and unexpected, but clearly not out of the ordinary.
AMORA, a girl who lost both parents in a car accident when she was eighteen, left university to care for her four younger siblings. Three years later, she still works at the same popular diner and sells her art on the side. After serving a mysterious customer at the diner, Amora begins noticing lights flickering, voices wafting through her window, and odd smells. She inadvertently catches the source of one of the voices on video: a dark creature with red eyes.
As the paranormal occurrences increase in frequency and intensity, the townspeople fear that they will spread outside Fog Creek and wreak havoc on the world. Further conflict arises when a powerful stranger appears to shed light on their unusual circumstances. Is this newcomer their invaluable ally – or their greatest enemy?
Thanks for the support!
